Bottom side is very different then top. Many holes were drilled in bottom.

Unusual grain pattern continues across joint between boards, not sure of manufacturing technique but still has a very nice look and hardness

It's nice a nice walnut slab, but there are a few dings in it and spots on the distance edge opposite the live edge that did not receive a thorough application of finish. There are also noticeable bumpy areas (but still flat) across the board. That is most likely natural and does not impede writing or drawing or anything else. The board IS PREDRILLED and they CANNOT CHANGE it. I asked and they still couldn't predrill. I was told their holes provide a good template, but none worked for the legs I bought from a separate vendor. Overall it's beautiful and I'm satisfied with it. I don't like to make a fuss about returning items, but with something this important I would send it back. I like it and really like the look of the finish and the live edge is nice. Any imperfections = wabi-sabi. 9.5/10 stars

It should say in the title that it is not a solid piece of wood. It is particleboard with a wood exterior. It looks ok, put you definitely cannot sand this and refinish it down the road.
